Hit-and-Run Driver Eludes Police by Jumping Into Yakima River

WAPATO, Wash. -- Authorities searched for a man Monday afternoon who jumped into the Yakima River after fleeing from two accidents. The second accident occurred about 3:30 p.m., when the man's vehicle struck a stop sign at the Thorp Road exit of Interstate 82, just south of Union Gap, according to the Washington State Patrol.

YAKIMA, Wash. -- A 48-year-old man who could face a first-degree molestation charge made a preliminary appearance Monday in Yakima County Superior Court. The man is accused of putting his hand up the shirt of an 11- year-old he had taken to Shopko in Union Gap on Sunday, according to court documents.

Man Faces Assault Charges in Stabbing During Yakima Fight

YAKIMA, Wash. -- A 22-year-old man accused of stabbing another man during a fight was arraigned Monday on first-degree assault charges in Yakima County Superior Court. Santiago C. Navarrete is accused of stabbing a man in the side five times during a fight April 29 in the parking lot of the Red Lion Hotel at 607 E. Yakima Ave., according to court documents.

Toppenish Robbery Suspect Makes Preliminary Appearance

YAKIMA, Wash. -- A man accused of stealing beer from a convenience store and later pointing a gun at the store clerk made a preliminary appearance Monday in Yakima County Superior Court. According to court records, the man was wearing black clothes and a black ski mask when he walked into the General Store at 505 W. First Ave. in Toppenish, grabbed two 18-packs of beer and walked out.
