YAKIMA - Beulah Aldene Roberts was born in Preston, Kansas on September 6, 1919 to Frank and Rellah (North) Allen. She died at age 91 in Yakima, Washington on May 14, 2011. Raised on the family farm, she fondly remembered her childhood with her younger brother, Bevin, and their friend, Elvin Roberts, one of nine children from the neighboring farm where she often helped out. Chickens were her favorite animals. Beulah learned quilting, canning and hat making -- but refused to milk the cow. Instead, she established herself as the cake maker. Her cooking, especially her fried chicken, became legendary in her family. In later years, Sunday dinners at Grandma's became a tradition for her son and grandchildren, and she always made sure there was plenty for everyone.
