YAKIMA - Clarence Parks was born in Franklin County, Missouri, on a farm somewhere near St. Clair, March 3rd, 1931. He spent most of his childhood on the family farms, first near Anaconda and finally, Salem. He graduated from St. James High School. After high school he worked for a time in West Texas on a ranch. He returned to Missouri and worked on an assembly line in a Ford plant in St. Louis. In 1953 he moved his small family to Yakima, and worked for Standard Oil. He managed, then owned and operated a series of Chevron stations ending his service station career at the Chevron station at 32nd and Summitview Avenue. He left the service station business to teach at A.C. Davis High School where he started a very popular vocation Service Station Management course which he taught for 18 years. By the time health issues forced his retirement he had earned the equivalent of a Master's degree and had earned the respect and affection of hundreds of students and colleagues. He went on to work as a fruit warehouse mechanic and in the automotive glass repair business and ultimately returned to what he loved to do most, fixing people's cars. He built his own home and it included a shop with a hoist where he remained everybody's favorite mechanic.
