Summary
Daniel (Dan) Schwabauer, 98, passed from this life to his Heavenly Home in Oct. 1, 2011. He was surrounded by family and staff at Summitview Health Care Center, his home for the past 18 months. Dan was born on January 19, 1913 to parents George and Elizabeth Schwabauer in Delta, CO. From there his family moved many times as they followed various job opportunities from farming and picking crops to lumbering and railroad work. As a result Dan completed only six years of formal education; however, he became an avid reader and could be seen with a library book or his bible in hand up until two weeks before his death. Thelma Frey and Dan were married September 1, 1938 in Sidney, MT. Eventually they settled in Sidney where they reared their five children. For 31 years Dan was employed by the Holly Sugar Co. mostly in the warehouse where he used his physical strength in loading and stacking 100 lb. sugar bags. In addition, he took on many side jobs working with cement. Whether he was plastering a wall, laying brick, or creating a sidewalk, he worked with great pride and integrity. After his retirement from Holly Sugar, Dan and Thelma moved to Yakima.
Dan loved to fish -- anytime, anywhere, anyway! He had an amazing memory of events in his life, never wavering in the details; consequently, none of his fish stories ever "grew." He cherished his family and was always ready to share stories about his children to anyone who would listen. He enjoyed taking his family on trips to visit both places and people. One highlight of his travels, however, came in his later adulthood when he and Thelma joined a church group on a working trip to the African country of Swaziland. This trip gave him a chance to use his working talents and share his strong Christian faith.See the full content of this document
