Summary
Peggy Mattern, age 104 passed away peacefully on January 26, 2008. She was the third of seven children born to Joe and Belle Collins on January 18, 1904 in Carlin, Arkansas.
Peggy had a very full life as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. At the age of seventeen, Peggy married Ed Ethridge. After seven years, their marriage ended, and Peggy along with their daughter Beulah Lee made the long train ride from Arkansas to the lower Yakima Valley where her parents and siblings were settled. Working in the fruit industry, and doing some restaurant work allowed Peggy to help her parents to make ends meet. Soon, Peggy met and married her second husband, Frank Orlando. They had two sons, Frank Jr. and Paul. After eleven years, their marriage ended. In 1945, Peggy married her third husband Paul Mattern. Together, they bought and renovated the old TB hospital and its surrounding property, turning it into several apartments, which they rented out to make their living. She and Paul had over forty happy years together and in later years spent time traveling and fishing whenever they got the chance.See the full content of this document
