Given all the problems and bad publicity out of the Yakima County Courthouse in recent years, one might wonder why anyone would even want to be a Yakima County commissioner.

Rand Elliott says he has been among the sharpest critics of county leadership and decided the best way to do something about that was to take a run at the seat being vacated by Jesse Palacios, who did not seek re-election. He survived a tough three-way Republican primary, edging Grandview's Mike Wallace to get the GOP nomination. Dan Olson of Union Gap was a distant third.
