The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month saw an end to major hostilities in what in 1918 was viewed to be The War to End All Wars. Combat, of course, did not cease with the cessation of World War I, and as such what began as Armistice Day was changed in 1954, when Congress declared it Veterans Day to honor all who have served this country in the armed forces.
