Summary


When Henry Ward Beecher was serving a church in Brooklyn, N.Y., there was a man in his community who hated Beecher bitterly, even saying that he would not go across the street to hear him preach.

This same enemy later became the famous pastor's devoted friend, and this was his simple explanation. Whenever a man did Beecher an ill turn, Beecher was not happy until he had done his offender a good turn. It came to be a proverb in Brooklyn, "If you want a favor from Beecher, kick him."
