Legislature Needs to Set Guidelines On Services for Immigrants

Summary


Treating others as you would want them to treat you is a noble undertaking. But when this generous sense of care and concern becomes reinterpreted by our state's bureaucracy, the result is far from uplifting.

This is certainly the case with respect to the manner in which social services are doled out to illegal immigrants. In this state, a policy of don't-ask, don't-really-want-to-know has become the prevailing rule when determining who qualifies for an array of publicly funded services -- from immunizations to housing assistance and child care.
