Let Fda Control Marijuana As Prescription Drug

Summary


The issue of states' rights got a bit more convoluted last week with a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court that seriously ill patients who smoke marijuana to alleviate pain can be prosecuted for violating federal drug laws -- even if their state's law says it's OK.

Clearly, the only way for this controversial, oft-misunderstood issue to be resolved in a fair and equitable manner is for Congress to instruct the federal Food and Drug Administration to approve and regulate the manufacture, distribution and medical use of marijuana. Unfortunately, we can't hold our breath for that kind of needed leadership to emerge in the nation's capital at the present time.
