There are Yakima Valley folks who are known statewide, nationwide and even worldwide for their accomplishments. Some were born and raised here and have moved away; others spent a part of their lives here; some live here now. Some -- former NASA space shuttle astronaut Bonnie Dunbar, major league pitcher and coach Mel Stottlemyre and the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas, for example -- are well known for both their accomplishments and their ties to the Valley.

Others -- super TV chef and New York restaurant owner Mario Batali, veteran character actor R. Lee Ermey and internationally recognized beauty salon and spa owner Gene Juarez -- aren't as well known for their links to the Yakima area.
