Funny thing about using hyperbole to convey humor -- it's not always funny. And, as Education Secretary Rod Paige found, hyperbole run amok in a charged election year can get you into trouble.

At a private White House meeting last week with several governors, Paige called the nation's largest teachers union a "terrorist organization." A lot of underpaid, overworked and severely underappreciated teachers understandably took umbrage with Paige's remarks, which he later characterized as "a bad joke" and "an inappropriate choice of words."
