You probably won't see them in the latest issues of fashion magazines or on runway models just yet. But many agree that life jackets, also known as Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs), can make quite the fashion statement with the variety of blazing colors and types available for each member of the family, including Fido.

Playing in the water is buckets of fun for the whole family, yet drowning is the second-leading cause of unintentional injury- related death among children 14 and under, and the leading cause among children ages 1 to 4. The majority of drownings and near- drownings occur in residential swimming pools and open-water sites. However, children can drown in as little as 1 inch of water, and are at risk of drowning in wading pools, bathtubs, buckets, diaper pails, toilets and hot tubs.
