Summary
Good news for seniors and young people and a good example of maximizing community resources are found in a pair of recent developments in Yakima. The brand new 16,000-square-foot Harman Center at the corner of Summitview and 65th avenues is a real boost for the community's seniors, thanks to the generosity of the John and Wuana Harman Foundation. The Harmans made their fortune as owners of the Kentucky Fried Chicken outlets in Yakima. John died in 1999; Wuana in January.
The old senior center at 602 N. Fourth St. will now do double duty, focusing on the community's youth as the home base for a local chapter of the Police Athletic League, a national organization aimed at preventing child delinquency by keeping kids busy. And seniors who don't want to trek across town to the new center may still make some use of the old site.See the full content of this document
